Other Structures by temples

When I first listened to Other Structures, I immediately thought that Temples sounded like the Beatles. It makes sense that a neo-psychedelic band from England would evoke another (albeit more iconic) psychedelic band from England. Temples blends modern experimentation with a sound that feels as though it came straight from the 60s, creating yet another sampler filled with nostalgic innovation.

Surreal and hypnotic, Other Structures arrives a full decade after Temples’ debut album Sun Structures. What makes the new EP unique is that it brings together several B-sides and remixes from a 10-year-old album that have stood the test of time, seamlessly complementing the band’s recent releases while proving that its evolving sound remains true to its roots.

As the Beatles do with their Anthology albums, Temples reward their fans with rare tracks and unreleased recordings while celebrating a major milestone in the band’s career. New–or rather, new-to-the-public–tracks like “Ankh” shine with stomping drum beats, and “Day of Conquest” pulls out the staple trippy, distorted guitar that defines psych rock. The band’s 2014 hit “Shelter Song” is honored with two remixes - one from Robert Levon Been of the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and another from the S.L.P. of Kasabian.

A decade after Other Structures came out, the unreleased tracks are timeless and the remixes revitalized, proving that Temples’ psychedelia only gets better with age.
